Reclaim Space, Damp-proofing, Kitchen Refurbishment in Swansea
Benchmarx Kitchen, Laminate worktop
The kitchen refurbishment in Trebanos, Swansea, was a little trickier than most. The customer had a small kitchen, but had an old shed and coal shed backing on to it. Our brief was to knock through into the sheds, block up the doors, cut a new window, renew the ceiling and make the whole space dry, damp-proof and well insulated.
We run a new purlin to support the lean-to roof and removed the shed walls. The shed floor was higher than teh existing kitchen, so we dug that up and relaid. We blocked up two doorways and opened up a new window. We rendered the old brick to give it some additional stability and used tanking to damp-proof the walls. We also laid a liquid damp-proof membrane on the floor before sealing with smoothing compound. We rebuilt the ceiling, insulated the walls and ceiling, skimmed throughout and installed a new kitchen.
